A 27-year-old has been arrested for cheating youths of lakhs of rupees on the pretext of providing them jobs in the Indian Railways, police said on Wednesday. Neeraj Kumar Singh, a resident of Aurangabad in Bihar, was arrested on July 16 from central Delhi's Kamla Market on a tip off. He holds a Master in Business Administration (MBA) degree. Singh, who was operating from east Delhi's Laxmi Nagar area, confessed that he along with his associates cheated several youngsters by luring them with promises of jobs in the Indian Railways. "Singh used to call the job seeker through his telecaller after fetching their mobile numbers from job portals. He would assure them of providing a "ticket collector" job in Indian Railways from te minister's quota," Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime Branch) Ravindra Yadav said. Yadav said Singh used to charge Rs.2,250 for filling up application forms and then call the victims through his telecallers for medical examination. "He used to charge Rs.20,000 to 40,000 from each candidate and send them to Kharagpur for medical examination," the official said. "His other gang members Amit and D.K. Sharma would greet those job seekers. They would take them to West Kharagpur railway hospital in West Bengal and fraudulently subject them to some personal checkups in the name of medical examination," he said. The official said the accused later used to call the victims for personal interview in Dhanbad or Khargpur and would charge a further Rs.40,000 to Rs.80,000. "Amit and D.K. Sharma used to fool the victims and send them back home after collecting their documents without any interview, citing some reasons," said the official. According to the official, Singh along with his associates had cheated over 20 such people. Police said that Singh had started working as assistant manager with Dominos Pizza in Bangalore after completing his MBA from Jain College located in the same city. "Singh was duped of Rs.800,000 by some people in the same manner for getting him a job in railways. Frustrated with this, he adopted the modus operandi and along with one of his friends and schoolmate duped several people in Patna in Bihar. Then, he shifted his base to Delhi," the official said.

Police started its probe into the racket on information received from the finance ministry and Reserve Bank of India (RBI) that some people were offering fake jobs in central government schemes.
